An Indian-Australian research partnership


The IITB-Monash Research Academy (The Academy) is an exciting partnership between the Indian Institute of Technology Bombay (IITB) and Monash University, Melbourne (Australia) - two of the world's leading educational and research institutions. The Academy will be housed in a specially constructed building at IIT Bombay.


The Academy, has designed a jointy-badged PhD program in which studetns can undertake interdisciplinary research in several thematic areas focussing on the fields of engineering and technology. The Academy is offering attractive PhD scholarships to suitable candidates. The current focus is on attracting top students in the fields of engineering and technology. As a PhD Student you will be based at The Academy in Powai. You will work with an elite team of academics and students on one of the following research themes:

*Advanced computational engineering, simulation and manufacture
*Infrastructure engineering
*Clean energy
*Water
*Nanotechnotogy
*Biotechnology and Stem Cell Research

Several of the research projects in The Academy will be sponsored by major industries. Opportunities exist for candidates to work closely with industrial R&D labs. Generous scholarships will be available to support candidates.

Candidates will:
*receive generous scholarships
*receive expert co-supervision from both IITB and Monash
*have access to world-class facilities
*gain international research experience
*be offered a special fellowship to enable them to visit Monash University, Melbourne, for a period of 6 months.



Candidates with a first class Masters Degree in Engineering or Science from a reputed university or a Bachelors degree with a high grade point average from the IIT's, NIIT's or BITS, should take advantage of this unique opportunity to acquire an internationally recognised qualification and pursue a career in research. Although not a pre-requisite, candidates who have been highly placed in GATE or GRE should apply.

APPLYING FOR A Ph.D

The application process
Step 1
Please download the expression of interest form which will enable us to adequately evaluate your background, academic standing and research interests.
There is no closing date to apply. You can apply whenever you want but the sooner you apply the better.
Email your completed form to: students@iitbmonash.org
Step 2
If your Expression of Interest form is found to be suitable, you will be sent a full form by email. You will be invited to fill and submit this full form along with copies of your academic transcripts, publication record, GATE score sheet, and other supporting documentation.

Phd Program interviews
Phd Program interviews Interviews for places in the Phd program will be conducted in November 2008. Interviews will be face-to-face at IIT Bombay, Powai Campus, Mumbai or by phone. Applicants selected for an interview will be contacted with further details.
