► Prime Minister’s Research Fellowship, Apply by October 7 2018

The Prime Minister’s Research Fellowship (PMRF) scheme is aimed at attracting the talent pool of the country to doctoral (Ph.D.) programs of Indian Institutes of Technology (IITs) and Indian Institute of Science (IISc) for carrying out research in cutting-edge science and technology domains, with focus on national priorities. Under the PMRF scheme for PMRF December 2018, students who have completed, or are pursuing, the final year of four year undergraduate or five years integrated M.Tech or five years integrated M.Sc. or five year undergraduate-postgraduate dual degree programs in Science and Technology streams from IIEST/IISc/IITs/NITs/IISERs and centrally funded IIITs are eligible for admission to full-time Ph.D. programme in the IITs & IISc provided they fulfill prescribed eligibility criteria and finally get selected after shortlisting/written test/interview. For each hosting IIT and IISc, the Ph.D. admissions under the PMRF scheme will be supernumerary. Applicants who fulfill the eligibility criteria, and are finally selected through a selection process, will be offered admission to Ph.D. program in one of IITs/IISc with a fellowship of Rs.70,000/- per month for the first two years, Rs.75,000/- per month for the 3rd year, and Rs.80,000/- per month in the 4th and 5th years. Apart from this, a research grant of Rs.2.00 lakh per year will be provided to each of the Fellows for a period of 5 years to cover their academic contingency expenses and for foreign/national travel expenses. There will be a rigorous review of the performance of Prime Minister’s Research Fellowship holders and continuation of the next year fellowship shall be contingent upon successful review.

Eligibility

The applicants for the PMRF should:

• have completed or been pursuing the final year of four (or five) year undergraduate or five years integrated M.Tech or five years integrated M.Sc. or five-year undergraduate-postgraduate dual degree programs in Science and Technology streams from IIEST/IISc/IITs/NITs/IISERs and centrally funded IIITs;

• have secured at least CGPA/CPI of 8.0 (in the scale of 10.0). For applicants in five years integrated or dual degree programs if separate CGPAs/CPIs are awarded for UG and PG parts of the program then the CGPA/CPI of UG part (first four years) will be considered.

• have completed the required academic qualification in the last five years.

Merely satisfying the eligibility requirement does not guarantee admission. Final selection for admission of applicants will be done following a rigorous selection process.

Abstract Submission

1. The Project abstract should clearly articulate the area of the study and should display keen interest and insight on the subject chosen.
   
2. The Project abstract should formulate a problem for the study which would be used for assessing the applicant's analytical and research skills.
   
3. The topic chosen shall be preferably in cutting-edge technology and science, with a focus on national priorities.
   
4. The abstract should be original in applicant's own words, provide formulation and other technical details of the problem. Evaluation of the abstracts will be an important component in the final selection of applicants for the PMRF.
   

Selection Process

The selection process for the PMRF will be a rigorous two-stage process with screening by the Reviewers and final selection by the Selection Committee for each broad discipline to ensure selection of the best talent.
An applicant may apply for more than one combination of broad discipline and institute. An applicant will be required to provide preferences in case the applicant wishes to apply for more than one combination of discipline and institute.
The shortlisting and selection will be done in the following manner:

1. Each Nodal Institute (NI) will have a team of experts who will assess the applications and prepare a shortlist of applicants for written test and/or interview at the Nodal Institute.
   
2. Shortlisted applicants will be called for a written and/or interview at the Nodal Institute.
   
3. Final selection of shortlisted applicants will be made based on the performance in the interview.
   
4. Each NI would first indicate whether the candidate has to appear in the written test or not. For PMRF 2018 there is no written test for any NI.

Intellectual Property Rights (IPR)

The IPR policy shall be as per the Institute's Policy on IPRs. The IPRs are owned by the Institution where the Fellow has worked.

Monitoring Mechanism

The National Coordination Committee (NCC) will periodically review and monitor implementation of the scheme. The NCC will report to MHRD the status of the scheme, fund flow and utilization thereof, and policy changes required to make the scheme more effective.
Apart from this, the monitoring will be done in the manner detailed below:

• There will be internal reviews twice a year.
  
• There will be a National Convention every year where all PMRFs will showcase their work. This will be an occasion for the Industry to participate in the Convention.
  
• There will be a website set up by the NCC showcasing the areas of work of each PMR.
  

Fellowship

The following would be the fellowship for the PMRFs:

Apart from this, each Fellow would be eligible for a research grant of Rs. 2 lakhs per year (total Rs. 10 lakh)

Industry participation in the PMRF programme would be explored through CSR funding so as to enable the industry to sponsor a maximum number of fellows.

HOW TO APPLY

Candidates can apply for JAM 2019 only through JAM Online Application Processing System (JOAPS) link available at the website http://jam.iitkgp.ac.in. The facility for Online Registration and Application will be available through the website http://jam.iitkgp.ac.in from September 05, 2018. A candidate has to first register on JOAPS website, by providing his/her name, a valid E-mail address, a working mobile number and a password. The candidate must give an E-mail address that he/she uses and checks frequently, as all communication to the candidate from JAM 2019 will be sent to this E-mail address. The candidate must not use somebody else's E-mail address and only one candidate can be registered with one E-mail address. Similarly, the candidate should provide his/her personal mobile number because most of the communication may also be sent via SMS. The password that the candidate provides should be chosen such that it cannot be guessed easily by others and this password must not be forgotten by the candidate as he/she will require it to login to the online application website. Upon successful registration, an E-mail containing candidate’s Enrollment ID will be sent to the E-mail address provided by the candidate. The Enrollment ID will also be sent to the mobile number provided by the candidate. The candidate needs to use this enrollment ID along with the password for all JAM 2019 related communications or website operations. Candidates are advised to keep the ID along with the password information safe and confidential.

Regional Institute of Education (RIE) has invited applications for admission to the various Education Programmes offered by it at Ajmer (affiliated to Maharshi Dayanand Saraswati University), Bhubaneswar (Utkal University), Bhopal (Barkatullah University), Mysuru (University of Mysore) and Shillong (North Eastern Hill University (NEHU)) during 2018-19.

The Programmes offered, seat availability and eligibility for admission are as follows:


B.Sc. B.Ed. (4 year integrated): Programme is offered at different RIE centres in Physical Science Group and Biological Science Group as follows: RIE Ajmer, RIE Bhubaneswar: 50 for each stream; RIE Bhopal, Mysuru: 40 for each stream. Applicant must have passed Plus 2 / Higher Secondary/Senior Secondary or any equivalent examination in 2016, 2017 or should be appearing /appeared in 2018 with Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics/Statistics, for admission to Physical Science Group, and with Physics, Chemistry, and Biology/Biotechnology for admission to Biological Science Group securing at least 50% marks in aggregate of qualifying examination with relaxation of 5% marks for SC/ ST/PWD applicants.

B.A. B.Ed (4 -year integrated): Applicant should have Passed +2/ Hr. Secondary/ Sr. Secondary or equivalent examination in Science/Commerce/ Arts stream with at least 50% marks in aggregate (relaxation of 5% marks for SC/ ST/PWD candidates) in 2016, 2017 or should be appearing /appeared in 2018. There are 50 seats each at RIE Ajmer, Bhubaneswar and 40 each at Bhopal and Mysuru.

M.Sc. Ed (6 year): This is an integrated Programme of Teacher Education leading to the Post-graduate degree, M.Sc.Ed. in Mathematics, Physics and Chemistry with an aim to prepare Senior Secondary School teachers of Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics without any option of intermediate exit before completing six years of study. There are 15 seats available for each of the M.Sc.Ed. Programme in Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics at RIE Mysuru. Applicant must have passed Plus 2 / Higher Secondary/Senior Secondary or any equivalent examination in 2016, 2017 or should be appearing /appeared in 2018 with Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics/Statistics, securing at least 50% marks in aggregate of qualifying examination with relaxation of 5% marks for SC/ ST/PWD applicants.

B.Ed (2 year): The seat availability is as follows at different RIEs for (i) Science and Mathematics Group and (ii) Social Science and Language Group: Ajmer, Bhubaneswar-50 each; Bhopal-40 each; Mysuru, Shillong- 25 each. Those with at least 50% marks in Bachelor’s Degree and /or in the Master’s Degree in Science/ Bachelor’s in Engineering or Technology with specialization in Science or Mathematics or in Bachelor’s Degree and/or in the Master’s Degree in Social Science/ Humanities are eligible for admission to the programme (relaxation of 5% marks for SC/ ST/ PWD candidates).

M.Ed. (2 year): There are 30 seats available at each of the RIEs at Ajmer, Bhubaneswar, Bhopal and Mysuru. Applicant should have obtained at least 50% marks or an equivalent grade (relaxation by 5% for SC/ST/PWD Candidates) in one of B.Ed OR B.A.B.Ed./ B.A.Ed./ B.Sc.B.Ed./ B.Sc.Ed OR B.El.Ed. OR D.El.Ed with a Bachelor’s degree in Arts/Science (with 50% marks), from any University / College / Institute recognized by affiliating universities


Integrated B.Ed- M.Ed (3 year): This is a professional programme in education, without any option of intermediate exit before completing three years of study. There are 40 seats for the course at RIE, Bhopal. Applicant should have a post graduate degree in Science / Social science/ Humanities from a recognized institution with a minimum of 55% marks or equivalent grade (relaxation by 5% for SC/ST/PWD candidates).



Selection:
Selection will be based on the Performance in an Entrance Examination and aggregate scores in Qualifying examination in the ratio 60:40. The Common Entrance Examination (CEE) will be of 2 hours duration will be held from 9 am to 11 am on 10^th June 2018 at centres as per the list given at https://ncert-cee.kar.nic.in/ExamCenterList.aspx. CEE will have questions from Language Proficiency (English) (20 questions, 40 marks), Teaching Aptitude/Attitude (30, 60), Reasoning Ability (30, 60).

Application can be registered at https://ncert-cee.kar.nic.in/, latest by 6 pm on 9^th May 2018 as per instructions at the website. The fee for entrance examination is Rs 800/- for General/OBC Category Students, Rs 400/- for SC/ST Category Student and Rs 400/- for PWD of any category Students. Application fee can be paid online using Credit card/Debit card/Net banking or through CASH by printing the e-Challan of SBI and crediting the fee amount in any branches of SBI. The challan is valid only for 6 days. Once fee payment is through, applicant can print/save the application form. Those selected through the entrance examination, have to submit to the respective RIEs at the time of admission, the printed application form along with all the enclosures including the photo copy of the mark sheet. Applicants can download their admit card after 14^th May 2018. Those who are appearing in the qualifying examination in 2018 must enter their qualifying examination marks as per the schedule given in the website.

ADMISSION TO INTEGRATED PHD (i-PhD) PROGRAM AUGUST 2018

The integrated Ph.D. (i-Ph.D.) programme at IISER Tirupati is aimed for highly motivated students who wish to pursue a career in research. Students with an excellent academic record can apply for the i-Ph.D. programme upon completion of a bachelor's degree in any branch of science. The course combines curricula for master's and doctorate degrees into a single integrated programme with a blend of course work and research projects.

IISER Tirupati offers modern research laboratories and computational facilities as well as hostel facilities for students. Students will also have the opportunity to participate in a broad range of seminars, meetings and workshops, giving them a chance to interact with people from other research organizations within the country and abroad.

Overview of the i-Ph.D. programme

IISER Tirupati offers Integrated Ph.D. (i-Ph.D.) as a research programme with a blend of course work (2 years) and research projects. On successful completion of the doctoral research project, students are awarded a degree in Master of Science and a Ph.D. degree. The first four semesters consist of core courses, elective courses and advanced courses specializing in one subject, and combined with research work. On successful completion of course work, related project work and a comprehensive exam, the student continues with the research leading to a Ph.D.

The i-Ph.D. program is to be offered from August 2018 in the Biological, Chemical, Mathematical and Physical Sciences.

Eligibility Criteria: 

1. Students with minimum 60% marks in aggregate (overall percentage with all subjects) or CGPA 6 out of 10-point scale in B.Sc./B.Tech/B.E. or any equivalent degree. 

2. In addition to the above, students must have qualified any of the national level exams listed in the following table for the respective departments.

3. SC/ST, PD and KM candidates Percentage may be relaxed with 5% or 0.5 in case of CGPA.
4. Candidates in the final year of their qualifying degree are also eligible to apply. However, their final selection is subject to their successful completion of the qualifying degree with the above-mentioned requirements at the time of admission. A provisional degree certificate is mandatory at the time of admission (Scheduled to be 1st August 2018).

   Yes, you are eligible.
2. Can I apply for i-PhD in more than one discipline?
   If you meet the eligibility criteria for more than one discipline, you can apply for both the disciplines by filing their respective application forms.
3. What is the fellowship structure?
   Institute will provide decent fellowship to an i-PhD student during the first two years, after which they will be receive a higher fellowship at par with a regular PhD student.
4. Will I be paid for my travel expenses for attending the i-PhD written test/interview?
   Institute will NOT be able to reimburse for your travel tickets.
5. Is it possible to leave the programme after MS?
   There is no exit option after MS.
6. Will I get an MS degree? If yes, how many years after joining the programme?
   The MS degree will be provided together with the PhD degree, however it will carry a date same as the date of passing the comprehensive examination, which is usually conducted before registering for a PhD.
7. How long does it take to complete the degree?
   Usually, it takes around six years to get a PhD degree in this program.
8. If I am selected in one department, am I allowed to choose research supervisor/mentor from other departments? Is it possible to pursue research with multiple supervisor/mentor?
   You may be allowed to pursue research with multiple faculty and faculty from other departments, provided your primary supervisor/mentor is affiliated to your parent department.

Summer Training in Physics and Chemistry (STIPAC-2018): (28th May to 6th July' 2018), at IGCAR, Kalpakkam, Tamil Nadu-603102

Dear M.Sc Physics/ Chemistry students, this is to inform you, that Indira Gandhi Centre for Atomic Research (IGCAR) is going to conduct a six week Summer Training Programme in Physics (STIP-18) and Chemistry (STIP-18) for students entering their final year of regular or integrated MSc (Physics/Chemistry).

This six-week long programme will comprise of both theoretical lecture courses and hands-on laboratory experience through projects. This programme is aimed at motivating the students to pursue a career in research. The theme for this year’s course is:
"Applications of Electromagnetic Radiation in Physics & Chemistry".

Twenty-five students will be selected in each discipline. The selected students will be provided a stipend of Rs. 4000/- per month and their travel expenses by sleeper class train will be reimbursed.
