Indian Institute of Astrophysics (IIA) is a premier national Institute in the country dedicated to research in Astronomy, Astrophysics and Allied Sciences & Technology, devoted to carry out research in astronomy, Astrophysics and Allied Topics with its field stations in different locations. The Institute is engaged in developing a High resolution Echelle Spectrograph (HESP) as a phase -II instrument for HCT (Himalayan Chandra Telescope), in its field station, Indian Astronomical Observatory (IAO), Hanle. The project is funded by the Department of Science and Technology, India. It is a collaborative effort between Industrial Research Limited, Wellington, NewZealand and IIA.

Applications are invited for the following positions to work in the HESP Project at Bangalore
1) Engineer Trainee (Electrical) - 01 Position
2) Engineer Trainee (Electronics) - 01 Position
3) Engineer Trainee (Software) - 01 Position
4) Post Doctoral Fellow - 01 Position

Qualification:
For Sl.No. 1 & 2 : B.E / B.Tech. in Electrical/Electronics or M.Sc Physics with strong background or training in Electrical/Electronics.

Additional qualification: working knowledge of linux operating system or experience with astronomical instrumentation.
For Sl.No. 3: B.E/B.Tech. in Computer Science & Engineering or M.Sc Physics with experience in instrument control software development.

Additional qualification: working knowledge of linux operating system or experience with astronomical instrumentation.
For Sl.No. 4: Ph.D in Physics(experimental) / Instrumentation / Electronics / Optics.

Age: The upper age limit for the positions at Sl.No.1 to 3 is 25 years and 36 years for the position at Sl.No.4.
Age relaxation is permissible to SC, ST & OBC candidates and also to physically handicapped candidates as notified by Govt. of India from time to time

Salary:
For Sl.No. 1 to 3: Rs.16,000/- PM during I year, Rs.17,000/- PM during II year and Rs.18,000/- PM during III year (inclusive of all).
For Sl.No.4: Rs.28,600/- PM (inclusive of all).

Terms & Conditions :

1) The selected Candidates will exclusively work for the HESP Project and tenure of the trainee-ship/fellow-ship will be initially for a period of ONE YEAR and extendable up to three years subject to satisfactory performance.
2) The Trainee / Fellowship programme is not regular employment and does not entitle any privileges or benefits of regular employment. It is only a temporary study programme for imparting training.
3) The posting will be at Bangalore, however the position require visits to the telescope site at Hanle and extended stay/visit at other campuses and field stations of IIA.
4) The date for determining the upper age limit, qualifications and experience shall be the closing date prescribed for receipt of completed applications.
5) Outstation candidates called for interview will be reimbursed to and fro train / bus fare by the shortest route limited to sleeper class railway fare on production of tickets.
6) The prescribed educational qualifications are minimum required and mere possession of the same does not entitle candidates to be called for interview. Where the number of applications received in response to the advertisement is large and it will not be convenient or possible for the Institute to interview all those candidates, the Institute has the right to limit the candidates to be called for interview on the basis of qualifications and experience higher than the minimum prescribed in the advertisement. The Institute also reserves right to call for interview only those candidates who in its assessment are likely to be more suitable.
7) The Institute reserves the right to cancel the entire recruitment process at any time without assigning any reasons whatsoever.
8) No correspondence will be entertained with the candidates not selected for interview / appointment.
Canvassing in any form will be a disqualification.
9) Candidates applying for more than one post should send separate applications for each post.
