National Institute of Technology Calicut (NITC) has invited applications for admission to following Ph.D. Programmes of session July 2014.

(i) Full-time (FT) (ii) Part-time (PT) (iii) Internal (IN) and (iv) External (EX) in:
Architecture
Biotechnology
Chemical Engineering
Chemistry
Civil Engineering
Computer Science and Engineering
Electrical Engineering
Electronics Engineering
Management Studies
Mathematics
Mechanical Engineering
Nanoscience and Technology
Physics

ELIGIBILITY and ACADEMIC REQUIREMENTS FOR ADMISSION TO Ph.D. PROGRAMMES
The candidates for Ph.D. Programmes may be offered admission, based on certain minimum academic requirements to be satisfied by the candidates as given below:
The maximum age for admission to Ph.D. programme is 50 years.

I. Faculty of Engineering:
M.Tech. Degree in Engineering/Technology in the appropriate branch of study with first class or minimum 60% marks (CGPA 6.5/10) [For SC/ST candidates, the minimum mark is 55% (CGPA 5.5/10)].

II. Faculty of Architecture:
Master’s degree in Architecture/Design/Planning/Engineering/Technology or its equivalent with first class or minimum 60% marks (CGPA 6.5/10) [For SC/ST candidates, the minimum mark is 55% (CGPA 5.5/10)].

III. Faculty of Nanoscience and Technology:
M.Tech. Degree in any discipline of Engineering/Technology/Nanoscience and Technology with first class or minimum 60% marks (CGPA 6.5/10) [For SC/ST candidates, the minimum mark is 55% (CGPA 5.5/10)]. OR
Master’s degree in Chemistry/Physics/Life science/Nanoscience and Technology with first class or minimum 60 % marks (CGPA 6.5/10) or equivalent, [for SC/ST candidates, the minimum mark is 55% (CGPA 5.5/10)] and a valid GATE score or UGC/CSIR/NBHM/NET/KCSTE fellowship in the relevant area, tenable from the current year.

Candidates applying for External and Part-time scheme of registration do not require GATE score or UGC/CSIR/NBHM/NET/KSCTE fellowship.

IV. Faculty of Biotechnology:
M.Tech. Degree in Biotechnology/Life Science with first class or minimum 60% marks (CGPA 6.5/10) [For SC/ST candidates, the minimum mark is 55% (CGPA 5.5/10)]. OR
Master’s degree in Life science with first class or minimum 60 % marks (CGPA 6.5/10) or equivalent, [for SC/ST candidates, the minimum mark is 55% (CGPA 5.5/10)] and a valid GATE score or fellowships such as UGC/CSIR/NBHM/NET/KCSTE in the relevant area, tenable from the current year. Candidates applying for External and Part-time scheme of registration do not require GATE score or fellowships such as UGC/CSIR/NBHM/NET/KCSTE etc.

V. Faculty of Science (Chemistry, Physics and Mathematics):
Master’s degree in Mathematics/Statistics/Chemistry/Physics/Electronics/Computer Science and Applications/ Nano Science and Technology/ Material Science/ Photonics OR M.Tech in relevant disciplines related to the major areas of research available in the department with first or minimum 60% marks (CGPA 6.5/10) or equivalent, (for SC/ST candidates, the minimum mark is 55% (CGPA 5.5/10)] and a valid GATE score or UGC/CSIR/NBHM/NET/JEST/KCSTE fellowship in the relevant areas tenable from the current year.
Candidates applying for External and Part-time scheme of registration do not require GATE score or UGC/CSIR/NBHM/NET/JEST/KCSTE fellowship.

VI. Faculty of Management Studies:
Post graduate degree in relevant area with a minimum of first class or equivalent grade from an institution recognized by UGC/AICTE. [For SC/ST candidates the minimum shall be a second class or equivalent grade). In addition, the candidates should have a valid UGC/NET/CSIR/JRF fellowship in the relevant areas tenable from the current year.
Candidates who have master’s degree in engineering and technology with GATE score, OR applying for internal/external/part-time scheme of registration, OR have managerial experience for not less than five years do not require UGC/NET/CSIR/JRF fellowship.
Candidates should possess First Class (60%) or equivalent both in Bachelors and Masters degrees. For SC/ST candidates 55% (CGPA 6.0/10) or equivalent both in Bachelors and Masters degrees.

HOW TO APPLY?
1. Apply online. The instructions for online submission of application are available in the admission webpage.
2. Before you start filling-in the online application form, keep the following documents ready with you
• 10th class certificate
• Mark list of the under graduate and post graduate degree course and diploma (for lateral entry candidate)
• Demand Draft towards application fee
3. The online application form is best viewed with Internet Explorer 6 or higher. On submission of online application, a printout of the application has to be taken. To view ‘the application to be printed’, you require an Adobe Acrobat Reader 6 or higher.
4. Candidates applying for admission to different departments / schools will have to write the corresponding codes in the appropriate columns in the Application Form. If a candidate is applying for more than one department/school, submit separate application.
5. A passport size photograph taken not earlier than 3 months is to be affixed on the Application Form. The photo in the application should be self-attested. Additional six copies of the same photograph and one stamp size photograph should be produced at the time of counselling/admission.
6. Demand Draft towards application fee (Rs. 600/- for Open and OBC candidates, Rs. 300/- for SC/ST candidates) drawn in favour of “Director NIT Calicut” payable at State Bank of India, NIT Calicut Branch (Code No. 2207) is to be enclosed.
7. The following documents arranged in the order given below should be enclosed along with the application (whichever is applicable):
i. Self attested copy of valid GATE score or UGC/CSIR/KCSTE/NBHM/NET/JEST fellowship in the relevant areas tenable from the current year, if applicable.
ii. Self attested copy of mark lists and degree certificate of the qualifying examination.
iii. Course completion certificate from the Head of the Institution in the prescribed format and attested copies of mark lists, in the case of candidates who have appeared or will be appearing in the qualifying examination. This is also applicable to candidates who have not procured the provisional/degree certificate.
iv. Self attested copy of Under Graduate Degree certificate and Mark sheets
v. Self attested copy of proof of date of birth
vi. Self attested copy of community certificate in the case of SC/ST candidates from a competent authority (not below the rank of a Tahsildar).
vii. Self attested copy of community certificate in the case of OBC candidates from a competent authority (not below the rank of a Tahsildar) indicating the status regarding Creamy Layer for the financial year ending 31st March 2013.
viii. Self attested copy of experience certificate.
ix. Research Proposal (use separate single sheet, 500 words approximately)
x. Sponsorship certificate duly filled by the sponsoring authority on their letter head with the seal of the sponsoring authority in the prescribed format, in the case of external candidate.
xi. The following additional documents, are necessary in the case of external candidates:
(a) Details regarding the research facilities available at his/her organization for his/her research work
(b) Certificate from the head of the institute/competent authority stating that these facilities will be made available to him/her if required for carrying out research and that he/she will be granted leave for completing the course/residential requirements at NIT Calicut as per Ph.D. regulations of the Institute
(c) Bio-Data of the prospective supervisor who would supervise the candidate’s work at his/her organization
(d) Prospective supervisor’s consent letter.
xii. No objection certificate duly signed by the Head of the institution, in the case of part-time candidate.
(In the case of internal candidates, a No Objection Certificate from the Head of the department).
xiii. Self attested copy of list of AICTE recognized short-term courses attended.
xiv. Self attested copy of all research publications in journals and conferences.
xv. Demand draft towards application fee as per the category of the candidate.

Printout of the Application with all the above enclosures should be sent (in A4 size cover) by Registered Post/ Speed Post so as to reach the Chairperson – PG Admissions, National Institute of Technology Calicut, NIT Campus PO, Calicut - 673 601, Kerala on or before 15-05-2014.
