WALK IN INTERVIEW

The National Centre for Antarctic & Ocean Research (NCAOR), an autonomous Society under the Ministry of Earth Sciences, Government of India, is the nodal agency responsible for planning, co-ordinating and executing the Indian Antarctic Programme. In addition the Centre has a well-focused scientific mandate of basic and applied research in various disciplines and themes of Polar and oceanographic research. NCAOR is looking for prospective candidates for filling up the following posts to cater to the requirements of its ongoing Projects. The posts are purely temporary and on a project mode. Candidates fulfilling the prescribed eligibility conditions are invited to attend a walk-in-interview at the Centre on the 18.12.2007.

Essential: Master' degree in Chemistry/ Physics/ Geology/ Applied Geology/ Marine sciences or equivalent from a recognized university

Experience: Not less than one year research experience in oceanographic data acquisition, processing and interpretation.

Desirable: Experience in cruise participation and handling of analytical equipment onboard/ laboratory. Working knowledge of GIS software.

Play an active role in all facets of the scientific programmes related to ocean sciences, participation in scientific cruises, analytical and laboratory work.

Essential :

Ph.D in any branch of basic / applied sciences or equivalent with three years research/ teaching experience. Candidates with experience of participation in oceanographic cruises, handling analytical equipment, seawater/ sediment analysis, identification marine invertebrate fossils are preferred.

Play an active role in all facets of the scientific programmes related to ocean sciences, participation in scientific cruises, analytical and laboratory work.

Junior Research Fellow

Essential:

First class (60 % and above ) Masters in Chemistry/Physics/Geology/ Applied Geology/Marine Geology/. Marine Sciences or equivalent.

Preference will be given to NET/GATE qualified candidates.

Participation in cruises, assist the scientists of the project in analytical work of Marine sediments, data acquisition, Processing. interpretation, And documentation

(Registration will start from 09:00 a.m to 11:00 a.m. No candidate will be allowed to attend interview without Registration. Interview will start from 11:00 am onwards).

Consolidated Emoluments: For Research Scientist 'B 'is Rs. 15,000/-(fixed) + Rs.1800 (HRA). And

Research Associate is Rs. 16000 (Fixed) +Rs. 2400 (HRA) and Junior

Research Fellow Rs. 12000 (fixed)+ Rs. 1800 (HRA ), only.

Age Limit : For Research Scientist 'B ' Not exceeding 35 years, age relaxation to the

employees of GOI and SC/ST/ OBC as per GOI Norms. For Research Associate

and JRF not more then 45 Male/55 years Female and 28 years respective-

ly, as per GOI norms.

Reservation : As per GOI norms. However being a project-mode position, if such candidate is not available, the same will be treated as unreserved

Tenure : The post/ fellowship is purely temporary under the Project mode on contract basis. The assignment is initially for a period one year, till the completion of the Project, whichever is earlier.

Note: Qualification(s) are relaxable at the discretion of the Director, NCAOR case of candidates otherwise well qualified.

N.B:-

1. The Date of Walk-in-interview (18.12.2007) is the cut-off date for all the purposes.

  1. Director NCAOR has the right to relax the eligibility criteria of the candidates of exceptional track record and experience matching to the requirement and also to cancel the recruitment process at any stage, without assigning any reason thereof.
  2. The person engaged will not be treated on par with regular employees of NCAOR and shall have no right to claim implicit or explicit for their absorption or regularization in NCAOR.
  3. No TA/DA will be paid for attending the interview.

All candidates are required to bring the original documents related to educational qualifications, date of birth, work experience, caste etc. Duly attested copies of all the documents must be submitted with the Bio-data. One self attested recent passport size photograph should be pasted in the appropriate place in the bio-data. . The original documents may be produced at the time of interview otherwise you will not be allowed to attend the interview.

Experience:(ii) Not less than one year research experience in the field of Glacio-chemistry / Hydrochemistry / Geochemistry/Isotope Chemistry / Biogeochemistry.

Desirable: (iii) Ph.D. in the relevant filed.

Hands- on experience in the field of chemical analysis sophisticated instrumental techniques.

To conduct the research work towards the Project and other scientific work/duties assigned from time to time.

Essential : (i) Master's degree in any branch of Earth / Marine/ Chemical/ Physical/ Biological Sciences.

Experience: (i) Relevant research experience or equivalent.

To undertake research activities related to the project and other scientific work/duties assigned from time to time.

Project: "Delineation of sea Ice Boundary from Indian Bay to Larsemann Hills, Antarctica Using High-Resolution Satellite Imagery".

Essential:

(i)First class M.Sc. in Marine Science/Physics.

Experience:

(ii) Working experience in UNIX environment with FORTRAN/C++ programming skills, shell scripts and working knowledge of GMT/ GrADS/ IDL/MATLAB Software.

Desirable:

(i) Sea going (cruise) experience on oceanographic & meteorological data collection. Experience of use of satellite data in Earth Sciences.

To take R & D activities involving collection, processing, analysis and interpretation of polar oceanographic, sea ice maps, meteorological and climatological data.

*Research Scientist B

Project: National Antarctic Data Centre, ICT Division

Essential:

(I) First class Master's degree in any branch of Science from a recognized University. and

(II) Minimum five years of research experience and working knowledge of networking, SQL, MySQL, DBI , MS Access, C, C++, Visual Basic, Cascading Style Sheets (CSS), HTML VBScript, Java Script IDL 6.0, MatLab, Windows 9x/2000/Xp/Vista

OR

Doctorate degree preferably in Earth & Planetary Sciences/Chemistry/Physics/ Biology with working knowledge of Net working , SQL, MySQL, DBI, MS, Access, C, C++,, Visual Basic, Cascading Style Sheets (CSS), HTML VBScript, JAVAScript IDL6.0, MatLab, Windows 9x/2000/XP/Vista.

Desirable:

(i) Research experience in Antarctica and higher skills in computer application would be advantage.

(i)To undertake development, creation, updation and management of Antarctic Data base on Atmospheric/biological / Earth and planetary sciences.

(ii)Assistance in development of WAN, online inventory management.

(iii)Any other scientific/technical job assigned by the Director from time to time

**Research Scientist 'C'

Emoluments : For Research Scientist 'C' is Rs. 20250 (Fixed) + Rs. 2250 (HRA), Research

Scientist 'B' is Rs. 15,000 (fixed) + Rs. 1800/- (HRA) and for Junior Research

Fellow Rs. 12000 (fixed) + Rs. 1800 (HRA).

Age Limit : For Research Scientist 'B ' not exceeding 35 years, age relaxation to the

employees of GOI and SC/ST/ OBC as per GOI Norms. For Scientist 'C'

between 27 to 40 years, age relaxation to the employees of GOI and

SC/ST/OBC as per GOI Norms . For Research Fellow Not more then

28 years relaxation as per GOI norms.
